8:30-9:45am - Lost opportunities - The school to the prison pipeline by Prof. Zuker
Marvin was a Justice in the Ontario Court of Justice from 1978 until his retirement in 2016. He has been a lecturer at Centennial College and Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. Marvin holds the rank of Associate Professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education where he has taught Education Law for the past 40 years. Marvin is the author and co-author of many books including The Law is NOT for Women with June Callwood, The Law is NOT for Kids with Ned Lecic, Education Law, the Childrens Law Handbook, and Inspiring The Future: The New Teacher's Guide to the Law, the latter three published by Thomson Reuters.
10-11:30am - Workshop Activity led by Shelley and Lisa
The workshop event will walk you through, in a more practical sense, the most common reasons that students are suspended or expelled and how these students are supported along this journey. The presenters will share with you the high level steps which have most recently been taken to ensure that students and staff feel represented, included and continue to express a sense of belonging in their school communities.
